CM Punk is known for leaving a trail of burned bridges behind him. His latest stint in AEW came to an abrupt end last week, when he was finally fired by Tony Khan. However, Eric Bischoff believes that Khan should have made this decision much earlier.
CM Punk’s Controversial Departure
Punk was fired from AEW after a backstage altercation with Jack Perry, just before his match with Samoa Joe at AEW All In. While Perry remains suspended, Punk is no longer a part of the company. This incident was preceded by a series of other controversies, including a meltdown and a backstage brawl at AEW All Out 2022.
Eric Bischoff’s Opinion
During an episode of the 83 Weeks podcast, WWE Hall of Famer Eric Bischoff shared his thoughts on the situation. He believes that Tony Khan should have fired Punk much earlier, specifically after the events of All Out 2022. According to Bischoff, Punk’s meltdown at the press conference made Khan look foolish.
“I think it would’ve been better, in the long run, if Tony had made this decision months ago. Punk’s meltdown at the press conference made Tony look like a complete buffoon. If it were up to me, I would’ve pulled the trigger then. However, I wasn’t familiar with all the circumstances and issues. There are still many things I don’t know.”
Punk’s Future
Ringside News exclusively reported that CM Punk wants fans to believe that a return to WWE is a possibility. It remains to be seen what the future holds for The Second City Saint.
